If these work, implementation can be done by existing commercial products.
- Using thermal imaging as these surfaces may have a distinctly different thermal signature than surrounding areas.
- Using a map of previously found oil spots to statistically predict areas of higher chance that new ones will appear.
- Using wind direction data and positioned ship mounted sniffers to identify oil molecules in the air and triangulate oil spill positions.
- Using current and water stream data to predict where spill waste will get to and waiting for it in strategic places.
