The Right To Choose

Filed under: Articles — Tags: — Roy Daya @ 05:03

“Management is all about choices, success in management depends on good choices.” – Roy Daya

CRISIS! Your team finds a possible solution and you have to decide if to implement it or not… whichever you decide you must decide NOW!

You know you cannot ignore the crisis but the risk of the proposed solution seems almost as high if it goes wrong…

What should you do?

Step 1 – Getting Choices

When you are faced with only one solution you have no real choice. Step 1 is to get some more choices.

Sometimes you start with several choices but most of them get “narrowed-down” almost immediately. At the end you end up with the least bad choice as the only alternative to doing nothing.

You can only choose when you have more than one plausible choice!

Step 2 – Getting GOOD Choices

To get good choices you need a larger choice pool to choose from.

You need 2 kinds of people on your team:

Creative and fast thinking people to come up with many creative choices and alternatives.

Deep thinkers to sort the potentially Good choices from the ones that are not viable.

Step 3 – Evolution

Create at-least 3 teams.

Each one will mature a solution with details and scenarios and will challenge the other solutions.

Bring each team as a consulting team to help the second team answer criticisms of the third team to their solution.

Make each team present the pros and cons of their solution and weather it is a real viable solution to the problem.

Step 4 – Exposure

Bring in a panel of experts and let them meet each team and:

Improve the choice

Spot hidden risks

Rank choice according to their experience and expertise.

Step 5 – Make a decision

Review the summary of the 3 or more GOOD choices and make a decision.

You might decide to not implement any of them or to try implementing a hybrid solution.

The choice is yours.

I will not advise you what to choose…

I will not analyze every possible choice to extreme depth…

I will help you to better define the problem and simplify complex situations and logical dilemmas.

I will brainstorm with you and your team and will create a large pool of possible choices that your team can work with.

I will make it possible for you to make a good choice by choosing from more than one good option.

Movie merchandising taken to a new level

The idea is to embed a chip in movie related toys such as action figures, stuffed toys etc to allow them to listen to queues from the movie playing in the background and identify specific movie queues.

These toys can interact with the movie running in the background by whispering additional texts, adding sound effects such as laughter or screaming, moving in synch with the movie or interacting with other toys in a special Karaoke like DVD mode that has the movie without the voices and it is generated by the available toys

This idea was shelved because I found a few related patents that made me realize that although creative it is not original…

iPhone App to turn voice into musical instruments

Filed under: Ideas — Tags: — Roy Daya @ 13:50

Imagine humming the notes of a song. What if a small app could recognize the notes and play them back in real time using a sound recorded from a musical instrument.

You could play the piano or saxophone by humming softly into your iPhone and letting the app do the conversion work for you.

This will bring the playing ability to people that did not spend years practicing a specific instrument but have the capacity to sing or hum the right notes.

This is a creative idea but I found out that there are several patents that are very close to it so it is off the implementation list..

Sport Action Point of View Feed in 3D HD

Imagine if we can convince athletes and sport players to wear a head band with two small cameras that records their moves and what they see in 3D and HD.

We could then watch a basketball game for example and choose a player angle for a replay and see the move as seen from the eyes of that basketball player. We could also choose to see the whole game from the point of view of a specific player, a referee, a coach or a guy sitting on the bench hearing the inside comments by the team mates waiting for their turn to play.

I think it would be amazing and I can’t wait until it is available. I think that people would pay a premium to have this available to them so there is no reason it will not be available.

I can see this as being great also for the Olympic games as well as other high profile championships.
Imagine a tennis game where you see the player POV in real-time.

Now let’s take it to the next step…

If you can see a player as he or she moves in real time and you get the images and sounds that he or she gets, you can use tiny electrodes or microphone to influence their choices.

A coach can indicate if to take the shot or not…

An experienced player can give feedback to a newbie…

Viewers can SMS and most votes can request the player to take their wants into account…

This can allow a level of interaction and intimacy not available currently.
