Creating a probe with lasers light years away

The difficulty exploring objects that are light years away in space is the time it would take a probe to get there using conventional technologies.

We are probably very far from being able to accomplish the following idea but maybe someone can use it as a starting point for something useful…

Instead of creating an object and trying to propel it in space for a very long time in relative low speed, my idea is to pick an object already located light years away in space and use very powerful lasers, beams, rays or whatever else to do pre-define nano-manipulation from remote distance and carve this object into something we can use for example carving a lens like object from an ice asteroid or using metal objects and reflect pulses to bounce beams from other objects in its surrounding and relay some kind of disturbance map…
