Harnessing lightning energy

Filed under: Ideas — Tags: — Roy Daya @ 07:03

I tried coming up with some ideas for harnessing lightning power. Seems like such a waste. So much energy and so little use…

-    Boil water to steam using a grid of metal wires that pass through a water container at the bottom of a lightning rod.

-    Use a gear system to convert a lightning hit on a metal pedal to a lift of a heavy platform thus converting the electric energy to kinetic energy. when the platform falls back down it can be controlled to create electric power in a form that be used.

-    Use the heat and pressure to create diamonds as outlined in another idea I posted previously.

-    Use lightning rods in border fences for added security. When there are storms and patrolling the fence is unfriendly people are less likely to try to cross over if the fence draws any near lightening

-    Use a combination of a lightening rod, mirrors and wires to collect lightning and retarget some of its power to specific targets

-    Make lightning rods that are metallic tubes filled with water. Water will be heated or converted to steam and use some of the lightening energy.

-    Create a grid of wires over a large area high in the sky to catch lightning and direct them to lightning power stations.

-    Install solar electricity panels opposite lightning rods to use some of the light created by lightning as solar energy.

-    Make the lightning pass through a large container with gas that would ignite and produce a lot of light such as neon and use it for solar panels

-    Use a large grid of lightning rods deployed over a large land area to analyze lightning hits and evaluate why specific landing site for the lightning was chosen (gold is a good conductor… I would dig under a lightning hit zone)

Double flushing device for toilet is a usability disaster

Filed under: Ideas — Tags: — Roy Daya @ 06:08

In many toilets there is a device that allows for a full flash and a partial flash in order to save water. The design is that the larger pedal or lever is for a full flash and the smaller lever or pedal is for a partial flash.

Although this may save a little on education as people would intuitively understand that big button is for more water and small button is for less water I think it is a usability disaster.

If I would design it I would make the big button (easiest to use, default use) the half flash and the harder to use smaller button on the side for a full flash. The aim is to make people press on the half flash more often than on the full flash. For that it has to be more accessible.

I think that in reality people press on the full flash button most of the time because it is easier.

To make people do something you need to make it easier and more accessible making it an automatic decision.

A dual bag recycle bin

Filed under: Ideas — Tags: — Roy Daya @ 05:46

In many cases we want to separate trash into more than one bag. For example wet and dry. Kitchen real-estate is expensive and putting two recycle bins one next to the other is not always practical.

This idea allows putting two bags in a single container and according to which pedal is pressed- the needed bag is opened using a rotating semi circular plastic or metal rim.

This design is not perfect as when one of the bags is full it may be difficult to throw into the other one but assuming that full bags will be replaced it can be a cool idea.

Can laughing gas relieve symptoms of panic attacks?

This post is just a question for research and not a suggestion. I would love to see comments about what people think about this.

Many people suffer from panic attacks. Sometimes the attacks last only a few minutes and for some people they can last for hours.

Many things can cause these attacks and for people taking strong medications, giving them even stronger drugs to counter these panic attacks sends them into a period of chemical instability.

What if someone who has a panic attack and wants to be able to relax without overloading himself with additional medications could just inhale laughing gas (Nitrous Oxide) for an hour or so and relax. Hopefully this would help the attack pass and the person can go back to normal.

This should only be allowed in supervised clinics to prevent abuse but might give many patients a better quality of life until they find the cause of these attacks and manage to eliminate them by a more compatible treatment protocol.

Daily VegiSticks

This is an idea for a service. Many people would love to eat healthier food if it was available to them when they want it and in a form that is easy to consume.

The idea is about providing a service of daily home delivery of pre-peeled and pre-cut vegetables to be consumed as snacks and as side dishes throughout the day.

The package can include a variety of vegetables such as cucumbers, carrots, celery, mushrooms, steamed sweet potatoes cubed, steamed pumpkin cubes, steamed beats etc.

It is important that all the vegetables should be cut and cooked sufficiently to be consumed as is.

A possible addition is a set of spice bags, dressings or dips.

If this service has a website than people can customize their order with the constraints of what is available or choose between common greens and surprise box packages.

If anyone likes this idea you are free to launch this business, I would love to know about it and I might be your first customer if it makes sense from a geographic perspective.

Creating diamonds with lightening

An idea to create a device that gets loaded with carbon and closed up. The device includes special lightening rods to attract lightening. The device uses the heat and electric power of lightening over time to deliver the needed pressure and heat for creating diamonds.

Diamonds can be created in a lab but in many cases the price of the energy needed is more than the worth of the resulting diamond.

With this device the power of nature can be used to create diamonds for FREE…

I advised a consulting company in Atlanta on how to create the needed software models to enhance the partner certification process management for Intel.

The assignment took more than a week and included building the needed software models, reports and data integration.

A few months later I advised directly to Intel in Israel on automating support tickets handling and support ticket analytics. The assignment was a full day with several follow-up discussions afterwards.
