Travel light

Traveling means carrying around heavy suitcases full of clothes, underwear, toiletries etc.

You might need to take a few fancier items but there are many common items that can be bought in a package form.

What if someone would offer cotton bags filled with:

-    Cotton shirts
-    Cotton Pants
-    Underwear
-    Toothbrush
-    Toothpaste Sample
-    Aftershave sample
-    Face Towel
-    Body Towel
-    Soap
-    Plastic Sandals
-    Other Misc

Not unlike a bag you get in the army with all the things you need.

All you have to do is go to a site and choose quantities and sizes and have the bag sent to your hotel room, train station, airport at the right time you need it.

Companies can donate stuff as samples to put inside like snacks, sample cosmetics, sample toiletries.

You can also return the used bags to pick up points for partial refund / recycle.

There can be weekly bags and monthly ones. Can be used by travelers and people that want to storm through airports without carrying luggage and get the minimal luggage delivered to their hotel room.

Another service can be by airlines or airports that for a small fee will collect your luggage from your home and deliver it to your hotel after you land without you having to deal with it.

Piano keyboard

It is hard to get used to a piano keyboard. To know by intuition where every key is. This takes a lot of practice and practice takes a lot of time which most of us don’t have. Sometimes we have time and mood to play but many cannot or don’t want to spend the time (years!!!) integrating with a piano keyboard.

I say piano makers step up to the 21st. century!

Start making pianos with qwerty keyboard and print notes that have letters on them. People will be able to sit next to a piano, grab a notebook with qwerty notes and start playing. We do have years of experience playing a computer keyboard to type texts.

A piece might look like: addsffgfdsaaa and the good players can add DFSDFS and !#$%^%^&&* to get more exact with the music.

I would buy one…

I know that there are probably software solutions for playing but they need to take it all the way and make the needed notes language and let people play on the qwerty keyboard on style by making a real piano with it.

Storyboard from and to script

This idea is about creating software that will read in movie and play scripts and using a library of objects, people, actions and AI engine create a storyboard or a comics automatically from the script.

This can help review the main elements of the text and help to visualize the various parts and scenes.

I am not dealing with scripts and not sure how useful this will be and for who but it sounds like fun.

Also useful can be to do this the other way around. One could have a graphic software that he or she can draw a room or map or scenery by adding elements and setting their properties and adding people and objects. The software can automatically write the description of the scenery and objects as seen buy any on the characters or as a general description.

Also one could define a movement path and can get the description of the effect of this character movement on the environment (“…he walked next to the dark opening and saw the shadow of the…”) or as it is seen by other characters or from a certain point of view.

Once you define a scene (not much unlike a 3D model scene) you can generate various descriptions that correspond to the scene and use them to write the script descriptions (or even use it to write novels or document an event).

Hearing voices

Filed under: Ideas — Tags: — Roy Daya @ 13:18

This idea combines the twitter concept (what is was created to be-the answer to what are you doing right now-and not ”link spam” for the masses) and our ability to selectively listen and filter things we don’t care about.

The idea is voice sms that gets broadcast to interested people periodically by a person to keep them updated.

While text sms is mainly used as peer-to-peer tool or as a marketing broadcasting tool it requires a person to stop what they are doing and handle their phone to read the message. They could save time if  it was simply whispered into their ear.

Imagine seeing a sale and announcing it in the ears of your friends or to announce that you just got some good news.

There are several ways to implement this using current cell phone technologies and services. From the more expensive using a protocol of sending and playing MMS messages to building a dedicated client software using a wireless network connection if one is found and supported by the phone.

It is like a private radio station composed of announcements from friends and family in real-time.

When you are in the car you can play it on your speaker phone and respond to friends announcements as they happen which will create something like a conference call where people can opt in and out and respond as they want or just listen.

Although there are many internet platforms such as twitter, facebook etc that let you stay updated with friends, most of us cannot dedicate time to just sit and stare at facebook the whole day and although we can easily post tweets through our cell phone we cannot easily filter the junk from the stuff we care about and we do have to stop everything and mess with it.

With radio like interface we can stay connected many hours a day and instead of listening to mass media create a custom stream we care about of short announcement from people we care about (not like podcasting where the content is longer and needs your attention and dedicated time, this is supposed to be listened to while doing other things).

Plus there is a real advantage from hearing our loved ones in their own voice. There is so much information that gets lost in text that is available when we hear someone talk like emotional state and subtexts.

A new eating utensil

Filed under: Ideas — Tags: — Roy Daya @ 16:23

An idea for a new eating utensil. It is a combination of a spoon and a fork one on top of the other. It has the best of both worlds for certain foods. I thought about it while eating rice noodles. It works perfectly where the fork part holds the noodles while the soup is collected in the spoon. You can eat the noodles and drink the soup with one hand motion with no splashing or stains…

Try it out :)

A virtual sales assistant

Filed under: Ideas — Tags: — Roy Daya @ 12:21

While there are many web gadgets this idea pushes the current implementations into cutting edge research in artificial intelligence.

A virtual sales assistant that will actively sell products. Presenting them, suggesting alternatives, negotiating, offering special deals with countdowns and closing deals.

I already have a name for this, screen shots and design…

I would love to partner with a company that will be able to build and market this product. I can help in various roles.

An idea to eliminate spam

Filed under: Ideas — Tags: — Roy Daya @ 12:11

Eliminating spam by changing the way we think about email. This is a very creative idea for a new software platform that will eliminate spam and bring much higher productivity into the office.

This idea is easy to present and it is obvious in its effectiveness once understood.

The implementation can be done with existing development tools and I believe it can be a huge opportunity for a company with the needed infrastructure to deploy a large scale internet application and go to market with force.

If you can come up with a budget for such a project talk to me.

I have done top level design and even some screen shots.

Recreational indoor arena for flying

The idea is about a large indoor arena that along with altered atmospheric pressure to the air and changing the composition of the air slightly as well as giving people a special flying suite will enable them to actually fly across the arena. Something like a 3D skating arena.

Sounds like great fun if someone would take the initiative to try and build it…

An idea for a new type of restaurant

This idea takes an element that exists in some form in many restaurants but makes it the main theme of the restaurant. It will be both very healthy and fun experience.

I see it as the next “Sushi” like craze.

If you are interested and involved in the field – talk to me.

Dreams as flight simulators for the brain

Filed under: Articles — Tags: — Roy Daya @ 11:45

The brain is a sophisticated learning machine. From my experience with my own dreams as well as with stories of dreams told by other people I came up with a theory about the meaning and purpose of dreams. I did not try to carry out any experiments to try to further develop this theory but I can try to suggest such experiments for anyone interested to follow up with this idea.

Speed of a purposeful reaction can mean the difference between life-and-death. Also socially we are constantly judged by our reactions to events. There is a definite advantage to people with the ability to instantaneously react rather then freeze.

I initially thought that dreams are simulators that train the brain with potential events and create preferred decision patterns that serve as reaction templates when awake. Although this may seem as a good idea, it does not represent the content of my dreams as I remember them.

Most of the dreams that I remember are not technical drills such as fixing a car. Nor do they lend themselves as useful for recording steps to some template in my brain. Also, many dreams are invoking deep emotions that are not necessary and even counterproductive for skill training.

The brain is not a computer. A computer is running in a constant and predictable environment. Deviation from ideal conditions will not only reduce performance but might bring a shutdown and potential destruction.

The brain has to perform in unpredictable conditions, especially when hormones are involved. How can the brain manage if at one time 1 + 1 = 2 and at other times 1 + 1 = 5. The brain often is like an archer. It tries to hit a moving target with an arrow but keep missing the mark because of wind. How can this imaginary archer learn to compensate for the wind and hit closer to the target? The answer is experience. Not experience shooting arrows as I first thought but rather experience dealing with the wind.

So my theory is the brain seeks experience with various hormonal and emotional states to learn how to compensate for them in real-life scenarios. This is important in danger where miss-judgment can bring paralysis by a chemical miss-calculation.

The brain uses various images and sounds to provoke hormones and then activates the decision making process, noting the needed corrections. The brain then records the results and creates another experiment after the current hormonal “drugs” have been absorbed. This can explain the dream cycle and the fact that the body paralyzed during dreams to prevent unwanted movement.

Many people have reported lurid dreams after using drugs or hormones such as melatonin and marijuana. This can be explained as the brain realizing there is a change in the hormonal environment and is caching up with its adjustments to better handle decision making in real life under these conditions. The real life effect is that these substances will have less effect on our decision making which will result in some people taking larger doses to maintain the effect of the drug.

I believe that dreaming is the most basic and most primitive training mechanism. As it has low dependency on external stimulation it can be safely carried out in sleep or even in the womb before birth.
